Dena’ina Windows

The Dena’ina Windows project started when the Anchorage Dena’ina Convention Center asked Athabascan artist James Grant to create a project that depicted the Dena’ina tribe in their traditional setting. What James Grant came up with was a large mural made of an aluminum frame and stained glass. James then contacted the staff at Expressions in Glass to assist him in the development of the many large sections of stained glass needed to complete the project. James constructed the aluminum frame that measured 8 feet tall by 17 feet wide for the main section. The top part measured 2 feet by 15 feet long. The figures of the Dena’ina men measured 4 1/2 feet tall. The bottom section of the panel was burnished aluminum cut outs. The total amount of glass pieces needed to complete this project was approximately 3,068. The project took four months to complete. The final installation date was September 28, 2008.
